Ramapo Officer Rescues Fawn Trapped In Abandoned In-Ground Pool

RAMAPO, N.Y.-- Earlier this month, it was Bambi and the Ramapo police when Officer Chris Conklin came to the rescue of a fawn who had fallen through a pool cover and became trapped.

A Ramapo police officer discovered a fawn trapped under a pool cover and was able to rescue the baby and return it to a nearby wooded area.

Police became aware of the fawn after they received a call from a Chestnut Ridge resident who reported hearing strange noises coming from the back of his property.

When Conklin arrived, he discovered the noise was coming from an adjacent, abandoned property and followed the noises until he found the little one trapped inside an in-ground pool.

Conklin was able to safely remove the fawn and returned him unharmed to a nearby wooded area.

According to Sgt. Chris Franklin, this is the second time in a couple of months that officers have saved a stranded fawn.

In May, his wife, Officer Julianne Franklin and a Ramapo Highway Department worker saved a fawn who had gotten stuck in a storm drain on Fleetwood Avenue in Chestnut Ridge.

Franklin said officers watched the baby find his mother after being released in the nearby woods. A video of the rescue can be seen on the Town of Ramapo Police Department's Facebook page.
