Port Authority police officer stops 2 in stolen car

BEYOND BERGEN: A Port Authority police officer arrested two Essex County women after discovering that the car he stopped for having tinted windows was stolen.

Port Authority Police Officer Joshua Oliveri stopped the black 1999 Volkswagon sedan for several violation on Route 139 in Jersey City last night, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo said.

After a computer check showed it reported stolen Friday afternoon, the officer found both the ignition and an exterior door lock assembly popped, he said. Oliveri also reported finding a leatherman and two screwdrivers in the car.

Taken into custody were the driver, 21-year-old Raven Anderson of East Orange, and passenger Khaliqua Davis, 28, of Newark, who also had an outstanding warrant from Maplewood Township, Pentangelo said.

Anderson, who was arrested on burglary charges in April, and Davis were — who was charged with theft and tampering with public records in 2011 — was charged with receiving stolen property and possession of burglar tools, he said.
