A member of the Ramapo Police Department stopped a 19-year-old Pomona driver at approximately 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday, when she was observed speeding in the area.
During the subsequent stop, it was determined that the teenager had the active bench warrant and a search of her purse revealed a loose prescription pill that was not prescribed to her.
Police proceeded to arrest the woman on the warrant and also charged her with criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. She was processed in Ramapo and turned over to the other agency to face the bench warrant. She is due back in the Town of Ramapo Justice Court later this year.
“(The) Ramapo Police Department would like its residents to be aware that the possession of any controlled substance that is not in its correct prescription bottle is a crime and the charge, possession of a controlled substance, is the same as being caught with a small amount of cocaine or heroin,” police noted. “In an effort to combat the epidemic of heroin and prescription drug abuse, the Ramapo Police Department vigilantly enforces this law and will continue to do so.”
