Officers located about eight cows walking in the roadway on Saddle River Road near the Ascension Cemetery. Lighting was poor, and unsuspecting vehicles could easily strike the animals, so officers remained on-scene attempting to guide the cows off Saddle River Road.

Their Emergency Communications Center was able to determine that the cows belonged to Duryea Farm on Ackertown Road in Chestnut Ridge. They were contacted and sent a farmhand to assist in herding the cows back to their home. All of the cows were returned by about 3:45 a.m.

On May 18, Ramapo Police handled 110 calls, including: 11 medical emergencies, 11 alarm activations, one fire, and seven arrests including charges for UPM, a domestic related incident, and vehicle and traffic offenses.

Also Wednesday, RPD responded to six motor vehicle accidents at the following locations: Orchard Street-Monsey, Route 59-Monsey, Route 202-NE Ramapo, Route 306-Pomona, Ridgeway Terrace-Wesley Hills, and Chestnut Ridge Road-Chestnut Ridge. Two of the accidents involved injuries.
