The unidentified woman was found after officers were called to the area of the Target store at the Spring Valley Marketplace for a report of an unresponsive woman in a vehicle, said Officer Matthew Galli.
When officers arrived, they found the woman, who appeared to be unconscious and not breathing, in the passenger seat of the vehicle, Galli said.
In order to get to the woman, officers had to break the window of the driver's side. After breaking the window, the woman woke up and admitted to being high on heroin, Galli added.
During a search of the vehicle, officers found numerous decks of heroin, pills, syringes, cocaine residue, and an unidentified crystal substance was found. The officers became aware that the heroin was laced with fentanyl, a controlled substance which is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine and as a result, a crime scene was set up to make sure pedestrians and onlookers were safe, Galli said.
Officers used special gloves, as well as respiratory devices to prevent any contact with the fentanyl, he added.
Rockland County Paramedic services responded to evaluate the female who was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
Due to the fentanyl and drugs present in the vehicle, the drugs and paraphernalia were confiscated and sent to the New York State Police crime lab for evaluation.
Charges against the woman are pending.
