Officers conducting speed enforcement on Summit Park Road at approximately 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday stopped a 31-year-old Spring Valley resident for traveling over the posted speed limit, prompting a traffic stop.

During the subsequent stop, officers reported that they could smell the odor of marijuana inside the vehicle, and upon further investigation, a clear plastic bag was located inside the vehicle with marijuana and 12 packaged pieces of crack cocaine.

The driver was arrested and charged with a felony count of criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. He's been released and is due back in the Village of New Hempstead Court later this month.
