YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A Lodi police officer had to climb through the driver’s side window to arrest a drunken Jersey City man who crashed his car into her police cruiser, authorities said.

Officer Nora Berrio was headed west on Garibaldi Avenue near the intersection of Man Street just after 7 a.m. yesterday.

Napole Pena, 23, was headed in the same direction when his 2010 Dodge minivan hit the left rear corner of the cruiser and sideswiped its left rear corner panel and rear wheel before both vehicles stopped with his blocking Berrio’s door, Detective Capt. Donald Scorzetti said this afternoon.

Pena “was still revving the engine” in an attempt to get away as Berrio climbed out and took him into custody, Scorzetti said.

Under John’s Law, Pena’s vehicle was held and he was released without bail to a family member pending a court hearing on charges of DWI, DWI within 1,000 feet of a school and reckless driving, in addition to various traffic violations.
