Officers from the Ramapo Police Department were dispatched to Saddle River Road, near the intersection of South Monsey Road at approximately 11 p.m. on Friday night, following reports of a car accident in the area.
Upon arrival at the scene officers reported that there was one car was totaled across the roadway with heavy front-end damage, and another vehicle approximately 100 yards away with slight damage from the incident.
Police said that the responding officers were told by witnesses that the two cars were “driving erratically” southbound on Saddle River Roads, and when one attempted to pass the other by crossing into the northbound lane, the driver - an 18-year-old from Spring Valley - lost control, went off road and struck a telephone pole, splitting it in two.
After hitting the pole, police were informed that the vehicle returned to the roadway and struck the other vehicle involved before coming to a rest across the road. The vehicle that stayed on the roadway had minor damage and the occupants inside were not injured during the crash.
The other vehicle was occupied by three people, police said. Rockland Paramedics and Faist Ambulance Corps responded to the scene to treat the front seat passenger, who had heavy bleeding from her head, while the driver and backseat passenger suffered minor injuries and were treated as a precaution.
Police proceeded to cite the driver the vehicle for multiple vehicle and traffic infractions that led to the crash, which led to a road closure for several hours as crews from the South Spring Valley Fire Department and Rockland County Highway Department cleared the scene and restored power to the homes.
