Officers from the Ramapo Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Route 59 and College Road at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Sunday night following reports of a motor vehicle accident in the area.
During the course of the accident investigation, police said that it was determined that one of the drivers - an Airmont resident whose name has not been released as he is still being processed - was intoxicated, and that he had been driving with a child in the car.
The arrest came shortly before a teenager was busted for possessing marijuana and a knife following a routine traffic stop in the area.
The man was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated - under Leandra’s Law for having a child in the vehicle and for having a blood alcohol content greater than .18 percent - and endangering the welfare of the child. The suspect is currently being processed at the Ramapo Police Department and is due in court to answer the charges.
