20-Year-Old Faces Dwai Charge After Ramapo Car Crash

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- A man found himself under arrest after a one-car accident in Chestnut Ridge Sunday, Ramapo police said.

Ramapo police charged a 20-year-old Brooklyn man with driving while ability impaired by drugs after he crashed his car Sunday evening on Hungry Hollow Road in Chestnut Ridge.

The unidentified 20-year-old driver from Brooklyn crashed his car on Hungry Hollow Road around 8:25 p.m., police said.

He was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, unlawful possession of marijuana and refusal to submit to a chemical test, police said.

He was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and was being held at police headquarters for arraignment, police said.

Police also investigated car accidents at the following locations: Route 202, Pomona; Route 202, Wesley Hills; Williams Avenue, Hillcrest; Liberty Rock Road, Sloatsburg; Lime Kiln Road, Wesley Hills; Maple Leaf Road, Monsey; Main Street, Monsey; Jackson Avenue, New Square; Margetts Road, Chestnut Ridge; Hungry Hollow Road, Chestnut Ridge; Route 17, Sloatsburg; College Road, Airmont; Rita Avenue, Kaser; and North Main Street, Hillcrest.

Police also responded to 124 calls Sunday, including: 12 alarm activations, four fires, and 11 medical emergencies.

Besides the DWAI, police also made arrests for second-degree aggravated harassment, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and allowing a dog to roam at large.

They also made a warrant arrest on an undisclosed charge.
