William E. Curtin, 68, Of Suffern

SUFFERN, N.Y. – William E. Curtin, a resident of Suffern, died Sunday, May 29. He was 68.

He was born on Jan.31,1948, in the Bronx, to Daniel and Margaret Curtin.

He served honorably in the Navy on the USS Ranger and served two tours in Vietnam.

In l977, he moved to Suffern, where he resided until his death. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a general mechanic at Helen Hayes Hospital for more than 30 years. He was the long-time president of CSEA Local 302, and active in many state and national labor causes.

He is survived by his wife, Gail; his daughter Danielle of Suffern, N.Y.; his son William, Jr. and his wife, Christine of Ramsey, N.J.; granddaughters Julia and Lillian; his sister Sally (John) Hunker of Bronx, N.Y.; and his sisters-in-law Florence (Pete) Mohan of Suffern, N.Y.; Lorraine (Bill) Goonan of Saugerties, N.Y., Nancy Marano of Holmdel, N.J., Kathy (John) Masserano of the Bronx.

He was predeceased by his brother Daniel and brother-in-law Martin Marano.

Visiting will be on Thursday, June 2, from 4-8 p.m. at the Scarr Funeral Home, Route 202, Suffern. A funeral Mass will be on Friday, June 3, 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church, Suffern. Burial will follow at the Fred Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
