David J. Reece, 51, Of New Hempstead

NEW HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- David J. Reece, 51, of New Hempstead, died Wednesday, March 30 while at the Joe Raso Hospice Residence in New City. 

He was the beloved son of Barbara Reece of Suffern and Jim Reece, who predeceased him last August. 

Born in Canton, Ohio, Reece moved with his parents from Ohio to New York to Michigan and back to Rockland County's Suffern in 1970. 

Reece joined the Camp Venture Inc. organization as a volunteer in 1971 during the height of the deinstitutionalization of Letchworth Village and the development of community programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Rockland County. 

He enjoyed life with his friends at his community residence and at Venture Center’s day programs, where he assisted in delivering Meals on Wheels weekly. 

Along with his mother, he is survived by his aunts, Lois Calderone of Battle Creek, Mich. and Mary Jane Frederick of Littleton, Colo.; his uncle Jerry Reece (Sandy) of Englewood, Fla.; his cousins, Lisa Spierings (John,) Paul (Elizabeth) and Marylyn and all their children. 

The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home, West Nyack Road, West Nyack. 

His life will be celebrated at 10 am.m Monday at a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern.
