Social Media Leads To Suffern Man Being Charged In 'Bathrobe Burglary' Case

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. - Social media helped lead to the arrest of a Suffern man who was caught on camera attempting to burglarize an Airmont home while wearing a bathrobe.

Earlier this week, the Ramapo Police Department released surveillance video of a man in a bathrobe who broke into a residence by squeezing through a kitchen window.

The video was subsequently posted on social media by Rockland residents and media outlets, including Daily Voice, leading to the arrest of a 26-year-old man, whose name was not immediately released by police. The man has been charged with second-degree burglary.

According to police, the video released of the suspect reached more than 200,000 people.

Police said that after the man was arrested by detectives, he was arraigned in the Town of Ramapo Justice Court. The man was released on $25,000 bail, which was posted by a family member. He is due to appear in the Village of Airmont Justice Court on Dec. 7 to answer the charge.
