The Ramapo Police Department reported this week that in January, officers were dispatched to numerous drug-related overdoses, including three instances where the individuals had become unconscious due to a heroin overdose.
According to police, officers in those instances assessed that the potential victims were not breathing, and administered Narcan to revive them. Each of the subjects was later taken to local hospitals for additional treatment.
Narcan is a brand of naloxone, a medication used to block the effects of opioids, particularly in the case of an overdose.
Police said that the Ramapo Police Department has since issued commendations to the officers for their life-saving efforts.
