Police said they were called to the hamlet of Hillcrest on Wednesday evening after a resident complained of being charged by the dog that belonged to his neighbor.
The unnamed man, who avoided the dog by jumping into his car, was not injured, police said.
He told police that the pit bull was acting in an aggressive manner, they said.
The 42-year-old owner was ticketed for not having the dog "at large," police said, adding that the local leash law applies to all dogs, not just aggressive ones, or those who belong to a particular breed.
The local dog control officer was notified about the situation, police said.
On Wednesday, Ramapo police investigated nine traffic accidents at the following locations: Highview Avenue-Monsey, Old Nyack Turnpike-Chestnut Ridge, Ellington Way-New Hempstead, Widman Court-Bluefield, Bush Lane-New Square, Lee Drive-Airmont, and Route 59-Airmont.
One accident involved injuries, police said.
Police also handled 157 calls for service including: 12 medical emergencies; 13 alarm activations; and seven arrests, including charges for unlicensed practice under state education law, grand larceny, driving while ability impaired by drugs, and numerous vehicle and traffic offenses.
