RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Parents are questioning the motive behind the East Ramapo school board’s recent bid to insert itself into their lawsuit against state education officials, according to a report by lohud.com.

The state has accused the district of mismanagement and has said that it favors the needs of children in private religious schools over those in public facilities, according to multiple media reports.

A group of parents sued the state earlier this month, claiming that, despite setting up a monitoring system, it has reneged on its promise to resolve the district’s problems, lohud.com reported.

The board says it has the right to defend itself even though the suit is against the Education Department while parents are accusing school trustees of trying to undercut the state’s findings, the lohud.com story said.

A court hearing on the board’s motion is scheduled for Tuesday, May 17, the lohud.com story said.
