Officials Say Pomona House Had No Code Violations At Time Of Fire

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Town officials have cleared a Pomona homeowner under suspicion following a fire on Wednesday that had raised questions about possible code violations, according to lohud.com.

The fire caused so much damage, that the Building Department revoked the home's certificate of occupancy, said lohud.com.

Tony Mallia, chief building inspector for Ramapo, said that while the single-family residence had a history of building code violations, it was found to be up to code following the fire, said lohud.com.

Mallia also said that the home on Route 45, didn't have any illegal apartments. There were rented rooms, but that arrangement was "totally legal," he added, reported lohud.com.

The fire began in the kitchen and managed to destroy the kitchen and reach the attic before it was extinguished. The fire caused so much damage, that the building department revoked the home's certificate of occupancy, said lohud.com.
