That was the scenario Friday afternoon at round 1 p.m. when police in Ramapo say they responded to a call of a bear sighting at Lincoln Street in the Village of Sloatsburg.
When they arrived, they found a mother bear with her three cubs wandering through residential yards and even in the street.
Police say the foursome eventually proceeded north into a wooded area without incident.
It marks the first reported bear sighting in the Hudson Valley in more than a week. Other sightings have been reported throughout the area in the late spring and summer.
