According to Ramapo police, at 9:08 p.m., Friday, June 9, they received a call from a Hillcrest homeowner reporting that someone had stolen the family dog earlier in the day.
The homeowner, who wasn't home during the theft, told officers that his neighbor had witnessed the theft and contacted the Ramapo Police.
Officers were able to track the vehicle to a home in Clarkstown where they found two women, 21- and 22-year-olds, who said told officers the dog had run away from them earlier in the day and they were unable to capture it, police said.
The women were charged with petit larceny and released.
Luckily, Clarkstown's dog control officer had found the little white Maltese earlier in the evening and was able to reunite the dog with its owner.
