Building Inspector In Ramapo Indicted On 188 Charges

RAMAPO, N.Y. – A chief building inspector accused of falsifying public records and stealing $150,000 from taxpayers is facing 188 criminal counts, according to lohud.com.

Ramapo Chief Building Inspector Anthony Mallia, 52, of Airmont, is alleged to have undercharged for building permits, according to lohud.com, which reported that a grand jury has charged him with two felony counts of second-degree grand larceny, 66 counts of first-degree falsifying business records, 40 felony counts each of first-degree tampering with public record and issuing a false certificate and 40 misdemeanor counts of official misconduct.

Mallia also is facing charges that he overcharged the Hillcrest Fire Department’s Moleston Fire District for a building permit by $75,000, according to lohud.com, which reported that the fire company constructed a multi-million dollar firehouse on Route 45.

According to authorities, there is no evidence that Mallia profited from undercharging for building permits, according to lohud.com, which reported that the 52-year-old is scheduled for arraignment in Rockland County Court on Feb. 14.
