Hurricane Matthew Felt In Spring Valley As Residents Await News From Haiti

SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. – Haitian Americans in Spring Valley are nervously awaiting word about how the people of their home island fared during Hurricane Matthew, according to lohud.com.

Renold Julien, founder of the Konbit Neg Lakay community group, said communication to the island was down Tuesday, leaving many locals with no news from their loved ones back home, according to lohud.com, which reported that some news is coming in, but slowly.

Local organizations that assist the Haitian community said they’ll wait until the full extent of the damage is known before moving to help, according to lohud.com.
