Daly, an actor, who plays the husband of the secretary of state, in the CBS drama "Madam Secretary," turns 61 on Wednesday.

He was born in Suffern on March 1, 1956.

Daly was raised in a performing household by his father, James Daly, an actor who was a regular on "Medical Center" and his mother, Hope Daly, also an actress. Adding to his later desire to follow in his parent's footsteps was his sister, Tyne Daly, of "Cagney & Lacey" fame, who was 10 years his senior.

Upon graduation from college in Vermont, Daly spent a couple of seasons at the Trinity Square Repertory in Providence, R.I., where he met his wife, actress Amy Von Nostrand. The two married in 1982, which happened to be the same year Daly made his feature debut in "Diner."

Daly had his first big burst of fame with "Wings" which ran on NBC from 1990-97. During his eight-season run on "Wings," Daly had better luck with small screen movies, including as cult leader David Koresh in "In the Line of Duty: Ambush in Waco" and as a death-row convict in the drama "Witness to the Execution." He had a major role in the ABC drama, "The Practice."
