Christopher John "C. J." Nitkowski, a Suffern native, turns 43 on Wednesday.
Nitkowski, a former professional baseball player who started with the Cincinnati Reds and also played for the New York Mets (2001) and Yankees (2004), was born March 9, 1973 in Suffern.
He played with the Texas Rangers in 2002 and 2003 and pitched for the Washington Nationals in 2005.
In the 2006 season, he played exclusively in Triple-A with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. After a year, Nitkowski accepted a one-year contract tender with Nippon Professional Baseball's Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks.
He retired in 2011 and is an analyst for Fox sports.
