Amazon Workers Go On Strike, Protest In 20 Nations, Including US
Amid the busiest shopping weekend of the holiday season, workers for Amazon, the world's largest online retailer, have gone on strike.
Protesting under the banner of “Make Amazon Pay.” employees have walked off the job across six continents in 20 countries, including the United States.
The strike is scheduled to last from Black Friday on Nov. 29 through Cyber Monday, Dec. 2, the UNI Global Union announced, saying protests will be held in majors cities in the US, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, India, Brazil and elsewhere.

Amazon Plans To Lay Off Around 10,000 Employees, Report Says
A week before the holiday shopping season officially kicks off, Amazon is set to begin laying off approximately 10,000 corporate and technology employees, The New York Times reports.
Job cuts at the online retail giant were expected to start the week of Monday, Nov. 14, and will primarily affect Amazon’s retail, devices, and human resources divisions, according to the outlet.
The largest in its history, the layoffs would impact 1 percent of the company’s global workforce and 3 percent of its corporate employees.

New Amazon Facility Under Construction In Westchester
With e-commerce continuing to grow across the country due to the pandemic, it's no surprise that Amazon is building a new warehouse in Westchester County.
Located in Mount Pleasant on Route 9A, the new 150,000-square-foot distribution center will include 136,000 feet of warehouse space and 14,000 square feet of office space, according to Mount Pleasant Town Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi.
Most importantly, the project will bring about 100 local jobs -- with pay starting around $18 an hour -- and about 1,000 area construction jobs, the supervisor said.

Having lost most of its sales amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Macy's says it will furlough most of its workforce of 130,000, which includes its subsidiary retailers Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury.
Macy's made the announcement on Monday, March 30, about two weeks after all its stores closed on Wednesday, March 18 due to the outbreak.

Covid-19: Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom To Close All Stores
Three of the nation's largest retailers -- Macy's, Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom -- will be closing their stores temporarily due to the spread of the novel strain of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Macy's said it would close all stores, including Bloomingdale's locations, at the end of the business day on Tuesday, March 17 through Tuesday, March 31. That's the same time frame for Nordstrom's scheduled closure.

A.C. Moore has become the latest company to abandon traditional-brick-and-mortar retail stores as part of a “broader strategic plan.”
Nicole Crafts, A.C. Moore’s parent company, announced on Monday, Nov. 25, that it would be closing down all of its 145 arts-and-crafts stores, including in New York and Connecticut, as part of the mass restructuring.

Bed Bath & Beyond Will Close At Least 40 Stores
Bed Bath and Beyond is planning to close at least 40 stores to help stem losses after it lost $253.8 million in the fourth quarter last year.
The home goods retailer, founded in 1971 and headquartered in Union Township, New Jersey, forecast dismal first-quarter profits, sinking shares in its stock on Friday, Feb. 12 as the company struggles to compete with online retailers such as Amazon.
