NY Lawmakers Oppose Decision To Open Chick-fil-A Restaurants At State Rest Stops
Several New York legislators are speaking out in opposition as Chick-fil-A prepares to open restaurants at state highway rest stops. Construction is set to begin on the project to develop 27 service areas on the thruway on Thursday, July 29. The project plans to expand the food and drink options at rest stops to include a number of well-known restaurant chains. The project was announced earlier this month. Flanked by former presidential nominee and fellow Town of New Castle resident Hillary Clinton, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo vowed that the Reproductive Health Act will be passed within the first 30 days of the legislative session, bolstering abortion- and birth-control rights statewide. But the last-minute maneuver puts the party, founded as an alliance between leftwing activists and some unions, at risk: It needs 50,000 votes on Nov. 6 to retain its line on New York state ballots for the next four years. The party voted to place Cuomo and his running mate, Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul, on the WFP ballot…

Could Third-Party Candidates Play Spoiler Roles In November Governor's Race? Stay Tuned
Related, updates in this Daily Voice story. The leaders of a small but influential Working Families Party are scheduled to vote on Wednesday, Oct. 3 to decide whether to keep Cynthia Nixon as its candidate for governor on Nov. 6, or endorse Gov. Andrew Cuomo and avoid playing the role of a spoiler. Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins also is seeking to be on the WFP ballot line on Nov. 6 instead of Nixon. One of the possible deals is backing Nixon in a state Assembly race against a fellow Democratic lesbian, Deborah Glick, as reported here earlier by the New York Post. The problem is: …
