Nassau County Police said officers responded to Yummy Gyro, located in Williston Park on Willis Avenue, for a burglary shortly before 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2. An investigation found that someone broke into the restaurant and stole approximately $3,000 from a lockbox and another $500 from a cash register. 16-Year-Old Caught With Fully-Loaded Gun, Driving Unlawfully On Long Island, Police Say A Long Island teen was arrested for possessing a fully-loaded firearm, as well as multiple traffic violations. The Williston Park teenager, age 16, was pulled over shortly before 2 a.m. on Tuesday, March 28, for numerous traffic infractions while driving west on Hillside Avenue near Willis Avenue, Nassau County Police said. When prompted to exit the vehicle, officers reportedly noticed a bulge in the teen's jacket pocket, which led to further investigation. Christopher Sharkey, From Mineola, Army Veteran, Dies At 53 A Colorado man who grew up in a large family in Mineola and served in the U.S. Army has died. Christopher Anthony Sharkey died of natural causes in Denver at the age of 53.  He was the son of Bernadette (McDermott) Sharkey and the late Laurence J. Sharkey.  Sharkey was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Mineola. He graduated from St. Mary's High School, served in the army, then moved to Denver.
