Woman Dies After Being Struck By Hit-Run Driver On Montauk Highway
A woman was killed after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on Long Island, police announced. In Suffolk County, a driver was traveling in West Islip west on Montauk Highway when a female was struck in the roadway at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Monday, May 23 near the intersection of Pease Lane. According to police, the driver then proceeded to flee the scene, speeding away westbound from the area. Woman Killed After House Fire Breaks Out On Long Island
A woman was killed after a house fire broke out overnight on Long Island. A 911 caller reported a fire in West Islip at 122 Myrtle Ave. at around 7:50 Saturday, April 2, Suffolk County Police said. The adult woman, who was alone in the house, died in the fire, according to police. Her identity will be determined by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Police Search For Duo Accused Of Stealing Bicycle In West Islip
Police have asked the public for help identifying two people accused of stealing a bicycle outside of a Long Island store. The incident happened in West Islip at about 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, according to the Suffolk County Police Department. A 73-year-old Long Island man was arrested and accused of possessing child pornography. Nicholas Pedagno, of West Islip, was arrested at about 5 p.m. on Monday, March 28, following an investigation, according to the Suffolk County Police Department. A 37-year-old man was hospitalized with serious injuries after crashing an SUV into a utility pole on Long Island. The crash happened in North Lindenhurst at about 10 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, according to the Suffolk County Police Department. Police are investigating an overnight Long Island Expressway crash that left a man seriously injured. It happened just before 1 a.m. Tuesday, March 8 in Brentwood. Steven Flores Diaz, age 25, of Central Islip, was driving a 2000 Ford truck eastbound on the expressway when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a guard rail near the welcome center by Exit 51, Suffolk County Police said. Firefighter From West Islip Dies Of 9-11 Related Illnesses
A New York City firefighter from Long Island who rushed to the World Trade Center during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks died from 9-11-related cancer at the age of 61. Frederick "Freddy" Gallagher, of West Islip, died on Tuesday, March 1, according to the FDNY. Gallagher, who was diagnosed with cancer two-and-half years ago, served as an FDNY firefighter for 28 years. Police on Long Island are investigating whether a series of pellet gun shootings that injured at least one young girl are related to a TikTok challenge. In the challenge, people are encouraged to fire soluble gel beads from airsoft guns at pedestrians and other vehicles on the roadway. Police have rescued a man who collapsed while clearing snow from his Long Island property. Suffolk County Police Officers Terence Slane and Tristen David responded to a home on Hyman Avenue in West Islip at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, after receiving a report from a neighbor that a man had collapsed while using a snowblower. A second suspect who was part of an operation that stole nearly $250,000 worth of cellphones from a Hudson Valley Best Buy has been apprehended by investigators, state police authorities announced.
