A firefighter suffered injuries battling a blaze that broke out in a Long Island home that was tied to a nearby lightning strike, police said.
In Elmont, first responders were met with thick smoke coming from a second-story window from a Circle Drive West home at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Monday, May 16, according to authorities.

Two Racehorses Found Dead After Fire Breaks Out At Belmont Stables
A pair of racehorses died and three men were injured when a fire broke out in a barn on the backstretch of Belmont Park, officials announced.
First responders were dispatched to the track at approximately 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13 when there was a fire reported inside the stables at the track on Hempstead Turnpike.
In total, 58 of the 60 horses under the care of trainers Wayne Potts and Jeffrey Englehart were safely evacuated, according to the New York Racing Association (NYRA), though two died in the fire.

Four Residents Escape From Long Island Home Engulfed In Flames
A Long Island home received heavy damage during a fire that engulfed the entire residence.
The fire started around 3:15 a.m., Monday, March 8, at the home on Monroe Street in Inwood, said the Nassau County Police.
Four residents inside the home were able to escape the flames with help from the Inwood Fire Department without harm, police said.

Man Barricades Himself Inside Long Island Home, Sets Fire, Police Say
A Long Island man was charged after allegedly barricading all of the doors of his home and then setting it on fire while inside.
Kevin Meyer, 31, of East Rockaway, was charged Monday, March 30, with various crimes following the event that took place around 11:49 a.m. on Elbert Place, said the Nassau County Police.
According to detectives, Meyer, while alone in his home, intentionally set fire to the residence and called 911.
Responding officers attempted to gain entry into the home but found all of the doors had been intentionally barricaded, police said.
