Three county employees in New York are facing federal charges after allegedly casting fraudulent ballots during the 2021 election. Rensselaer County employees Richard Crist, age 55; James Gordon, age 42; and Leslie Wallace, age 35 were each arrested Thursday, April 27, on an indictment charging them with conspiring to violate the rights of voters, according to the US Attorney’s Office in the Northern District. A Long Island woman won’t serve any time behind bars after admitting that she fraudulently obtained thousands of dollars in unemployment insurance benefits by impersonating a prison inmate. Briana Garland, age 30, of Uniondale, was sentenced to two years of probation in federal court in Albany on Thursday, Feb. 2. It followed her guilty plea to a single charge of conspiracy to commit mail fraud. NY Engineer Sentenced For Stealing GE's Trade Secrets To Benefit China
A New York engineer is heading to federal prison for conspiring to steal General Electric’s trade secrets to benefit the Chinese government. Schenectady County resident Xiaoqing Zheng, age 59, of Niskayuna, was sentenced to two years behind bars in federal court in Albany on Tuesday, Jan. 3. It followed his March 2022 conviction on a charge of conspiracy to commit economic espionage. After a four-week trial, the jury either acquitted Zheng, or could not reach a unanimous verdict, on 11 other charges.
