World War II Era Letter In Bottle Discovered By Woman During Tropical Storm Debby
Shortly after Debby made landfall along Florida's west coast as a Category 1 hurricane earlier this month, it produced something no forecaster — or anyone else — could have predicted. Suzanne Flament Smith, age 46, of Tampa, discovered it on Wednesday, Aug. 7, in the form of a World War II-era artifact. She said she found it while collecting debris in the city of Safety Harbor. It was a bottle sealed by a cork. Inside was a handwritten letter from a location in Virginia over 800 miles away near Virginia Beach. 19: NY Looks To Secure New Temporary Hospital Sites, 12K More Join Surge Healthcare Force
New York State is scouting additional new sites for temporary hospitals, with a goal of having a 1,000-plus patient overflow facility in each NYC borough as well as Westchester, Rockland, Nassau and Suffolk counties, Gov. Bethpage Air Show At Jones Beach Will Have Something For Everyone
The 2019 Bethpage Air Show with high-flying stunts from world-renowned military and civilian performers returns to Jones Beach this weekend. The U.S. Thunderbirds and guests will perform Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There are two ways to watch the show, from a boat in Zach's Bay or at one of the parking fields at Jones Beach. Admission to the beach is free but parking is $10 and paid at the fields. There is no toll. There is also a VIP experience.
