Multi-Million Dollar Scheme: 8 NYers Accused Of Scamming Government For Services Never Provided
Eight New Yorkers who owned, operated, or were employees of several transportation companies have been accused of scamming the government out of millions of dollars for services never provided.
The indictments were unsealed on Long Island at federal court in Central Islip on Tuesday, June 11.
Seven of the eight are from Long Island and the other from New York City:
Noman Ahmed, age 37, Port Jefferson Station;
Adnan Arshad, also known as “Eddie,” age 45, Mount Sinai;

The mother of a 7-year-old girl found unresponsive in a hotel pool on Long Island last year has been charged with manslaughter.
Katlyn Pineda, of Queens, was found unresponsive in Suffolk County in the Marriott Melville pool on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, and remained in a coma until she died from her injuries on Monday, May 1, said the Suffolk County Police.

Trio Busted Stealing Mail From Long Island Post Office, Police Say
Three men are facing charges after they were allegedly caught stealing mail from a Long Island post office.
The trio was busted shortly after 2 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 26, after officers witnessed two of the suspects exit a vehicle and remove mail from drop boxes at the Merrick post office, located on Fisher Avenue, according to Nassau County Police.
Detectives arrested 24-year-old Noah Aranzamendi, of Brooklyn, and 30-year-old Ralph Aranzamendi, of Howard Beach, Queens, without incident.

Can You Spot The Fake? Wanted Man Busted On Long Island With 2 Real Guns, 1 Phony, Police Say
A 25-year-old wanted man is facing additional charges after a traffic stop on Long Island turned up three guns, two of them real, authorities said.
Rahson Dickerson, of the Bronx, was arrested at around 7 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, in Woodmere after Nassau County Police were called to assist the NYPD with a traffic stop near West Broadway and Eastwood Road.
Inside Dickerson’s car, officers found two handguns and one imitation gun, according to police.
Dickerson was arrested without incident on two counts of criminal possession of a firearm and three counts of criminal possession of a weapon.…

Federal agents apprehended a 44-year-old fugitive in New York, where they say he was trafficking large amounts of cocaine and fentanyl.
Benito Bello, from Lawrence, Massachusetts, who also goes by the name Zuriel Ayala Rodriguez, was arrested in the Bronx on Wednesday, Aug. 10, the DEA said.
Agents said Bello had a kilo of cocaine and 14 kilos of the synthetic opioid inside the home where a minor child also lived.
Next to the house was a daycare that watched children as young as 6 weeks old, federal agents said.

A pair of New York men are wanted by authorities for pretending to be New Jersey residents' jailed grandchildren asking for bail money, scamming them out of thousands of dollars after a similar incident was reported on Long Island, authorities said.
Jorge Peguero-Mendez, 34, and Richard Quinones-Perez, 24, both of the Bronx, are wanted on charges of theft by deception and conspiracy to commit theft by deception, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.
