When it comes to putting down your roots, these New York locales are among the best in the nation, according to a brand-new ranking.
Four cities in the Empire State made the top 100 on U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 “Best Places to Live in the US” ranking.
Researchers pulled data from a variety of sources, including thousands of public survey responses, the US Census Bureau, FBI crime statistics, and school and hospital rankings to come up with the top 150 American cities.
Cities were ranked using four key indicators: value, desirability, job market, and quality of life.

Over $250K Raised For Families Of Deputy, Cop Killed In Shootout On Quiet Suburban NY Street
More than a quarter of a million dollars has been raised to support the families of a police officer and sheriff's deputy killed in a shootout with a suspect who also died on a quiet suburban street in upstate New York earlier this week.
The two officers were Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Hoosock, age 37, and Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen, age 29.
Hoosock is survived by his wife, Caitlin, and their three young children, ages 7, 5, and 3.

A student at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York has been accused of threatening to shoot, stab, and rape Jewish students at the Ivy League school.
Patrick Dai, a 21-year-old junior originally from Pittsford, New York, was arrested on Tuesday, Oct. 31 on a federal criminal complaint charging him with posting threats to kill or injure another using interstate communications, according to prosecutors in the Northern District of New York.

Seen Them? Statewide Alert Issued For Brother, Sister Who've Been Missing For Months
New York State Police are seeking the public's assistance in locating a missing upstate brother and sister who haven't been seen in more than two months.
The children, 10-year-old Hope G. Cobb and her 11-year-old brother, Samuel D. Cobb of Fulton, located about 30 miles north of Syracuse in Oswego County, went missing on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022.
They are believed to be with their non-custodial mother, Angela Cobb, who lost custody in November 2022 during a divorce, which officials believe led the mother to flee with the children, said Trooper Jack Keller.

New York Woman Found Dead Days After Reported Missing, Police Say
The body of a 59-year-old New York woman was found days after she was reported missing.
New York State Police announced on Sunday, Dec. 18, that Onondaga County resident Susan Mills was found dead in the area of Carpenter Falls, a waterfall located in the Cayuga County town of Niles.
Mills was reported missing on Wednesday, Dec. 14, after she had last been seen leaving her home in Elbridge, a village located about 20 miles from Syracuse, on Monday, Dec. 12, police reported.
Police said the investigation into Mills' death is ongoing.
