Apparent Drowning: Babylon Woman Pulled From Connetquot River ID'd In Oakdale
Authorities are investigating the apparent drowning of a woman on Long Island.
The incident happened Sunday morning, Aug. 4, in Oakdale.
An employee of the Oakdale Yacht Club, located at 520 Shore Drive, called 911 at 8:07 a.m. after observing a woman in the Connetquot River.
The woman, Catherine Andreau, age 62, of Babylon, was pulled from the water and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Suffolk County Police.
An investigation determined that Andreau, who was staying on a houseboat, jumped into the water at 1:30 a.m. to rescue her dog.

The identities have been released of four people killed, including a police officer, and nine injured after an allegedly drunk driver crashed an SUV into a shop at a New York strip mall.
The incident happened on Long Island around 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 28, in the hamlet of Deer Park.
According to Suffolk County Police, the driver, Steven Schwally, age 64, of Dix Hills, was driving a 2020 Chevy Traverse southbound at a high rate of speed through the parking lot in front of 421 Commack Road.

A Long Island man has been accused of murdering his girlfriend at a local motel earlier this year.
On Wednesday, May 29 just before 2:30 a.m., a 911 caller reported a woman not breathing at the Shore Motor Inn, located in Patchogue at 576 Eastbound Sunrise Service Road, Suffolk County Police said.
The woman, Candice Woodruff, age 37, of Katy, Texas, was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A woman was killed and the body of her missing husband was later recovered following an overnight two-boat crash in the Great South Bay.
A 27-foot 1989 OC/MA boat, operated by Louis Deritis, age 53, of Oakdale, collided with a 44-foot 1989 Henriques Sport Fisherman near Fire Island north of Ocean Bay Park, between North Channel and Range Channel, at approximately 10:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, according to Suffolk County Police.

New details have been released following the indictment of a Westchester County man in connection to an execution-style shooting onboard a Long Island Rail Road train last year.
Suffolk County Police arrested Nicholas D'Agostino, age 20, of Yonkers on Thursday, May 18 for allegedly shooting Suffolk County resident Yusef Staine, of West Babylon, also 20 years old, to death on the train on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022, at approximately 1:45 a.m.

Nearly two years after a 69-year-old engine mechanic was found shot to death inside his Long Island home, a jury has convicted his killer.
Donatila O’Mahony, age 42, of Central Islip, was found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Lee Pedersen in Suffolk County Court on Tuesday, Jan. 24.
According to prosecutors, Pedersen was found dead inside his Aquebogue home on March 8, 2020. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner determined he had died from a single gunshot wound to the back of his head.
Several of his belongings, including a cell phone and cash, were taken from the home.

The identity has been released for a third teenager killed in an overnight crash on a Long Island roadway.
It happened at around 9:45 p.m. in Holtsville.
A 16-year-old Holtsville resident was driving a 2009 Infinity G37 northbound on Nicolls Road with a female and a male passenger, when the vehicle left the roadway by Division Street and crashed into a wooded area, Suffolk County Police said.
