Nearly three years after a woman was raped inside her Long Island home, the man who broke in and attacked her has confessed.
Joseph Johnson, age 33, of Wyandanch, pleaded guilty to first-degree rape in Suffolk County Court on Friday, July 28.
According to prosecutors, Johnson admitted to breaking into the victim’s Wyandanch home on Sept. 19, 2020. He then raped the woman before stealing cash and fleeing.

Hilario Hernandez De La Cruz, age 35, of Riverhead, was indicted for attempted criminal sexual act in Suffolk County Court on Tuesday, July 25.
According to the Suffolk County DA’s office, the 11-year-old victim was at De La Cruz’s Riverhead business, Larry’s Barber Shop, with his father on Monday July 10, when the two men began drinking alcohol.

Prolific Burglar Targets 7 Long Island Businesses, DA Says
A pizzeria, a laundromat, and a nail salon were among the seven businesses targeted in a Long Island man’s alleged burglary spree.
Kenneth Eckhoff, age 70, of Mastic Beach, was indicted on multiple felony counts of burglary in Suffolk County Court on Wednesday, July 12.
According to prosecutors, Eckhoff burglarized the following Suffolk County businesses between May and June 2023:
