Apparent Drowning Victim Pulled From Great South Bay In Shirley
A man pulled from the water on Long Island died from an apparent drowning. Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers aboard Marine Mike responded to the Great South Bay at Fire Island National Seashore in Shirley, just west of Smith Point Bridge, at approximately 10:55 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16. They were alerted by a 911 call reporting that a man's body had been seen in the water. Officers removed the man from the water, and he was pronounced dead. Water Rescue: Clammer Spends Hours Stuck In Ice On Long Island
A 73-year-old clammer had to be rescued after spending hours trapped in ice on Long Island. The incident happened Tuesday, Jan. 23 in Narrow Bay in Shirley, near Smith Point Bridge. Suffolk County Police said someone called 911 at around 2:30 p.m. for a boat that was stuck in the ice. Officers from the agency’s Marine Bureau located the vessel and used their own boat to break up the ice and tow the man to safety. Marathon Will Lead To Four-Hour Bridge Closure In Suffolk County
Motorists have been advised that there will be a four-hour closure on the Smith Point Bridge over the weekend for the annual triathlon. The Suffolk County Police Department issued an alert cautioning that from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, the Smith Point Bridge will be closed for the Smith Point Triathlon. During the bridge closure, there will also be no access to the beach.
