Man Crossing Roadway Struck, Killed By Car In Shirley
Police on Long Island are investigating a crash that killed a man overnight.
It took place in Shirley around 9:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 15.
According to Suffolk County detectives, Frank Brandimarte was crossing William Floyd Park Parkway from west to east when he was struck by a southbound 2016 Honda Civic driven by Aristides Baires,
Brandimarte, age 59, of Shirley, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.
Baires, age 28, of Shirley, was not injured.
The Honda was impounded for a safety check.

Man Convicted In Violent Home Invasion On Long Island Involving Well-Known Rapper
A gang member accused of taking part in a violent, home-invasion robbery on Long Island that left an autistic teenager injured has confessed to the crime.
Bellport resident Miguel Ruiz, age 29, pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary Thursday, Aug. 11, in Suffolk County court.
Prosecutors said Ruiz, a known member of the Bloods street gang, was armed with a gun when he and six other men kicked in the victims’ Shirley home at around 3:30 a.m. on May 7, 2021.

Long Island Man Nabbed For Swerving Toward Highway Workers, Reckless Driving, Police Say
A Long Island man was nabbed for alleged reckless erratic driver after he allegedly intentionally swerved at highway workers and damaged cones.
The incidents took place in Southampton between July 13, and July 20, on County Road 39 and Tuckahoe Road.
In one of the incidents, officers said Michael Stetson, age 48, of Shirley, driving a 2021 white Ford Utility vehicle, yelled and swerved toward Southampton Town Highway employees who were working, said the Southampton Police.
In another incident, Stetson allegedly struck cones, damaging them on purpose, police said.

Father, Daughter Wanted In Girl Scout Cookie Scam Targeting Local NY Residents
Police in New York are reporting they have received at least 11 complaints from residents who said they gave to buy Girl Scouts cookies that were never delivered.
The incidents on Long Island were reported to Suffolk County Police between Saturday, June 18, and Monday, June 20, the department said.
Police say the alleged cookie scam took place in the following communities: Lake Ronkonkoma, Bohemia, and Patchogue, to Shirley to Mastic.
The money was given to a man who accompanied a young girl during some of the incidents, and in others, the girl was alone, police said.
