Two Teen Swimmers Missing, One Rescued Near Rockaway Beach Police dive teams and first responders are back in the water off Rockaway Beach searching for two teens who went missing while swimming. The incident took place around 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1,  when New York City Police officers in Rockaway responded to a 911 call of a water rescue at the Beach 96th Street and Broadwalk, said the NYPD. A thresher shark weighing more than 500 pounds was caught by a trio of fishermen from the Staten Island Fishing Club following a three-hour battle off the coast of Sandy Hook, N.J. on Sunday, Aug. 18. Joseph Egitto, 27, of Arden Heights; Pat Salvato, 42, of Tottenville; and Frank Pomponio, 25, of Great Kills, reeled in the 510-pound shark, which measured at a whopping 94 inches in length.
