Man Assaults Woman Before Hours-Long Standoff At Long Island Home, Police Say A Long Island man has been apprehended after assaulting and seriously injuring a woman prior to a long standoff with officers at his home, police said. The incident unfolded early Sunday morning, May 22 in Lake Grove. Brookhaven Man Critically Injured After Pickup Truck Crashes Into Tree, Police Say Police are investigating a crash that left a Long Island man critically injured.  It happened around 2:50 p.m. Saturday, March 12 in Holbrook. A 63-year-old Brookhaven man was driving a 2007 Ford pickup truck westbound on Express Drive North when the vehicle left the road, struck a tree and overturned, Suffolk County Police said. Officers from the Emergency Service Section and members of the Ronkonkoma Fire Department extricated the man from the vehicle.
