Covid-19: Long Island Infection Rate, Highest In State, Now Nears 10 Percent As Cases Climb
Long Island's seven-day average percentage of positive COVID-19 tests is now the highest in the state, reaching nearly 10 percent.
On Sunday, Dec. 19, another 23,391 cases were confirmed in the state, and 258,612 tests were administered, state officials reported in an update on Monday, Dec. 20.
According to state officials, 1,696 of the new cases were reported in Suffolk County and 1,947 in Nassau County.
Sixty deaths from COVID-19 were reported in the state on Sunday, officials said.

Long Island's seven-day average number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people is the second-highest in the state, according to an update from officials.
New York State officials gave the update on Sunday, Dec. 19, reporting a total of 22,478 additional positive cases in the state from 267,422 tests administered.
The state also reported another 58 deaths from COVID-19 over the past two days, with New York now surpassing 60,000 deaths during the pandemic, with the new total 60,253.

The final tally is in, and New York State Police troopers dished out more than 12,000 tickets and arrested nearly 150 motorists for alleged impaired driving, authorities announced.
Between Wednesday, Nov. 24, and Sunday, Nov. 28, New York State Police issued 12,975 tickets during their annual Thanksgiving holiday traffic enforcement period, down slightly from the previous year’s campaign.
Over the holiday, state police utilized sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and ticketed distracted drivers who used handheld electronic devices.

Long Island's seven-day average number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people has nearly doubled since the start of the month, according to the latest update from the state.
On Saturday, Nov. 6, the average was 17.6 cases per 100,000 people, but as of Saturday, Nov. 20, the average was about 31.7, the state said in new data released on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 21.
