A traffic stop on Long Island led to the arrest of a 19-year-old woman who was found in possession of a handgun, police said. Tashayla Ayres, of Brooklyn, was arrested in North Lawrence at about 8:10 p.m. on Monday, July 18, according to the Nassau County Police Department. An officer saw a 2009 Mitsubishi traveling north on Nassau Expressway with a defective tail light and a cracked windshield, NCPD said. A section of a busy area roadway remains closed following the crash of a tanker truck that leaked a large amount of gasoline. The crash took place around 5:18 a.m., Wednesday, July 7, on the Nassau Expressway between Burnside Avenue and Bay Boulevard in Queens. As of 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, the roadway remained closed between Bay Boulevard and Mott Avenue, said the Nassau County Police. A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a vehicle on Long Island. The accident took place around 9:08 p.m., Monday, Feb. 3, while the pedestrian was attempting to cross the Nassau Expressway in Inwood, said the Nassau County Police. According to detectives, while attempting to cross Mott Avenue, from the east side to the west side, a 24-year-old man was hit by a 1995 Honda traveling northbound on the expressway. A 24-year-old man was killed after being struck by a car on a busy Long Island roadway. It happened on Monday, Feb. 3 at 9:08 p.m. in Inwood, Nassau County Police said.
