Repeat Drunk Driver Admits Hitting, Killing Man Outside Woodbury Restaurant
More than a year after a husband and father was struck and killed by a repeat drunk driver outside a Long Island restaurant, his family is getting closure.
Willem Specht, age 63, of Wantagh, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and related charges in Nassau County Court on Monday, Aug. 26, in the death of Joseph Devito.
Prosecutors said Specht was “highly intoxicated” when he quickly reversed his car from a parking spot, striking the 61-year-old Devito outside the On Parade Diner in Woodbury at around 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 18, 2023.

Nearly a year after fleeing the state, a Long Island man has been extradited and charged in a 61-count indictment for selling illegal firearms, authorities said.
Westbury resident Gerald Pierre, age 40, was arraigned in Nassau County Court on Friday, March 31, for 61 counts relating to owning and selling illegal firearms.
It came two days after he was extradited to Nassau County on Wednesday, March 29 following an unrelated arrest in Pennsylvania, bringing to an end a saga that started when he fled New York over a year prior, prosecutors said.

The owner of a Long Island clothing boutique is accused of selling counterfeits of high-end fashion brands, authorities said.
Mitchell Feig, age 66, of Merrick, was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 11, following an investigation by Nassau County Police. Feig owns Max & Gino’s, located in Woodbury on Jericho Turnpike.
Detectives said the store had on display several items bearing counterfeit trademarks of Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Gucci. The phony trademarks were reportedly found on sweatshirts, patches, and shirts.

10-Year-Old Sexually Abused By Church Employee From Long Island, Police Say
A church employee from Long Island is facing charges for allegedly sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl.
Daniel Butler, age 41, of Elmont, was arrested on multiple charges, including first-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child, following an investigation by Nassau County Police.
Investigators said Butler sexually abused the victim in December 2022. The girl attended an after-school program at the Fullness of Joy Ministries Church, located in Jamaica, Queens, where Butler serves as director.

A former employee at a New York nursing home accused of sexually assaulting a resident had multiple complaints against him, yet his boss actively worked to conceal his abuse, prosecutors allege.
