Last Full-Size Kmart Store In US, Located On Long Island, Set To Close: Here's Where, When
The nation's last remaining full-size Kmart discount department store is just weeks away from permanently closing, according to a new report.
The New York store, located on Long Island, will close on Sunday, Oct. 20, a store employee told NBC affiliate WJAR in Providence on Sunday, Sept. 22.
The store is in Bridgehampton on Montauk Highway (Route 27).
A smaller format store in Miami, Florida remains open, the report said.
Kmart operated around 2,500 stores at its peak in the early 90s, according to government filings. It merged with Sears in 2005.

Duo Nabbed For Stealing Used Cooking Oil From 14 Long Island Businesses, Police Say
Two Long Island men were nabbed for allegedly stealing used cooking oil from 14 businesses.
Oliver Lorenzo Valdez, age 30, of Central Islip, and Juan Hernandez, age 28, of Brentwood, were charged on Tuesday, June 25, after being spotted behind the Gourmet Garden in Center Moriches.
According to Suffolk County Police, officers responded to a 911 caller reporting that two men stole used cooking oil from Mama Lisa Restaurant at 1226 Montauk Highway in Mastic and fled the scene in a white Ford van at 6:15 a.m. June 26.

17-Year-Old Among 5 Burglars Targeting Long Island Business, Police Say
Five suspects, including a 17-year-old, were arrested in connection with a commercial burglary on Long Island.
The break-in happened at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, May 5, in Bayport at Moe’s Sweet Air, located on Bernice Drive near Montauk Highway.
Suffolk County Police said five males, all between the ages of 17 and 21, broke a window and stole money and vape products from the business.

Fatal Crash: 36-Year-Old Medford Man ID'd As Victim In Bellport After Being Struck By F-150
A man crossing a busy Long Island roadway was killed after being struck by a pickup truck.
It happened just before 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 in Bellport.
The victim was crossing Montauk Highway on foot from north to south, between Doane Avenue and Michigan Avenue, when he was struck by an eastbound 2013 Ford F-150 Raptor, Suffolk County Police said.
The man, identified as Elmer Mendoza, age 36, of Medford, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the F-150, a 59-year-old Brookhaven man, was not injured.

Not So Fast: Drunk Driver Hits Utility Pole On Long Island, Tries Running Away, Police Say
A 30-year-old man is facing drunk driving charges after allegedly crashing into a utility pole on Long Island and then fleeing on foot.
The incident happened shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, in Eastport, at the intersection of Montauk Highway and South Bay Avenue.
According to Southampton Town Police, Ismael Garcia-Chitay, of Eastport, was driving eastbound on Montauk Highway when he drove off the roadway and struck a utility pole.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and nobody was injured.

Fatal Crash: Long Island Man Crossing Busy Highway Struck By Car
A local man was killed after being hit by a car while crossing a busy Long Island highway.
The incident took place in Suffolk County around 8:40 p.m., Tuesday, April 18 on the Montauk Highway in Shirley.
According to Suffolk County Police, a 53-year-old Shirley man was driving a 2016 Subaru eastbound in the travel lane of Montauk Highway, west of Camp Upton Road, when the vehicle struck Paul Moran, who was crossing the roadway.
Moran, age 57, of Shirley, was pronounced dead at the scene by an EMT with Shirley Community Ambulance, police said.
