Eight New York members of organized crime families, including six from Long Island, are among nine men who have been charged by federal authorities with racketeering and related offenses.

Friends of a vibrant Long Island woman allegedly shot and killed in her luxury apartment building by her boyfriend have stepped up to help her family cover funeral expenses.
Marivel Estevez, age 39, of Mineola, was killed by her 55-year-old boyfriend Mark E. Small, of Elmont, around 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, in her apartment at the Allure of Mineola, said the Nassau County Police.
In a bizarre twist, Small then stole Estevez's dog and took off on the Long Island Expressway where he got into an accident, police said.

Man Accused Of Assaulting Officer During Incident At Mineola Catering Hall
A man from out of state has been accused of assaulting an officer during a disturbance overnight at a Long Island catering hall.
Officers were dispatched to the Jericho Terrace Catering Hall in Mineola, located at 249 Jericho Turnpike, on Saturday, July 30, at around 12:10 a.m.
Upon arrival, they found John Demonte Alarcon, age 29, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, acting in an aggressive manor with a 50-year-old man who was struck in the face with a closed fist, Nassau County Police said.

A Long Island has been charged with multiple counts of criminal mischief after allegedly tire spikes at various police facilities, causing damage to vehicles.
The incidents took place in Nassau County from May to Monday, July 11, on at least five separate occasions.

Two MS-13 members from Long Island have pleaded guilty to the 2017 machete murder of a man whose body was found in a wooded area a year later.
Luis Alejandro Varela, age 24, of Mineola, and William Reyes-Fuentes, age 27, from Uniondale, pleaded guilty Friday, June 24, for the August 2017 machete murder of Carlos Rivas-Majano, said Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly on Monday, June 27.
