Cooking Oil Thefts: Duo Accused After Incidents At 9 Nassau County Restaurants Two men have been accused of stealing cooking oil from nine different Long Island restaurants. Nassau County Police officers responded to a report of a larceny of used cooking oil in progress on Friday, April 7.  Prior to arrival, officers observed a 2006 Isuzu white Box Truck matching the description.   Officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a vehicle and traffic law stop.  Two suspects were then placed under arrest: Melvin Howell, age 55, of Brooklyn; Rodney Lofton, age 49, of Queens. Utility Worker Sentenced For Crash That Killed Bicyclist On Long Island A utility worker from out of the region has been sentenced to 3-1/2 years to 10 years in prison for operating a utility truck while high on multiple drugs and striking and killing a bicyclist on Long Island. Matthew Mummaw, age 34, of Jacksonville, Florida, was sentenced on Friday, Dec. 17, after pleading guilty to manslaughter in October for the death of 38-year-old Erik Canales in Uniondale, said Acting Nassau County District Attorney Joyce A.
