'Mistaken Identity' Led To Father's Killing In Backyard Of Long Island Home, DA Says
A case of mistaken identity led to a husband and father being gunned down in the backyard of his Long Island home, prosecutors said.
Oliver Schor, age 22, and Christopher Fernandez, age 28, both of Sound Beach, were formally arraigned on murder charges in Suffolk County Court on Friday, Aug. 9, in the fatal shooting of Michael Hartmann.
According to prosecutors, Fernandez and Schor were armed with rifles when they showed up at Hartmann’s Bohemia residence, located just south of the Sunrise Highway on Smithtown Avenue, at around 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 2, 2022.

West Nile Virus Found In Mosquitoes On Long Island; Here's How To Protect Yourself
Health officials on Long Island are urging people to take precautions after testing of mosquitoes confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus.
Twelve mosquito samples were positive for the virus following testing done at locations around Suffolk County, according to county Health Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott.
The samples were collected on Sunday, July 2, and Monday, July 3, in Northport, Melville, West Babylon, Lindenhurst, Holbrook, Holtsville, North Patchogue, Farmingville, and Manorville.
It brings the total number of positive mosquito samples this year to 16.

Years after a woman was found strangled to death in a wooded area near a Long Island farm, her killer has finally confessed.
Faustino Cruz-Marquez, age 26, of Manorville, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in Suffolk County Court on Wednesday, May 3, in the death of Maria Carmelina Velasquez-Zhau.
The 37-year-old victim disappeared on July 28, 2020 at the Cosmos Farm in Manorville, where she both worked and lived.
