Winner, Winner: Long Island Man Collects Mega Millions Prize
One lucky Long Islander’s holiday season just got a lot more jolly.
Hicksville resident James Tinghitella claimed his Mega Millions prize from a summer drawing, the New York Lottery announced on Monday, Dec. 18.
The second-place prize, worth $1 million, was a part of the Tuesday, Aug. 1 drawing. Tinghitella matched the first five numbers.
According to lottery officials, the winning numbers were 08, 24, 30, 45, 61, and Mega Ball 12.
Tinghitella received his winnings in a single lump sum worth $651,000 after required withholdings.

Jose Galeano, of Lindenhurst, claimed a $5 million top prize on the New York Lottery’s $5,000,000 Cash Royale scratch-off game.
He opted to receive a single lump-sum payment of $2,235,939 after paying taxes, according to lottery officials.
Galeano purchased the incredibly lucky ticket in Amityville, at the Stop & Shop located on Merrick Road.

One person is over $10,000 richer after a winning ticket was sold at a Long Island convenience store, according to lottery officials.

On Thursday, Sept. 7, the New York Lottery announced that a local gas station sold one prize-winning Take 5 Midday ticket in Valley Stream.
