Grand Theft Not-o: Trio Tries, Fails To Steal BMW From Affluent LI Neighborhood, Police Say
Three would-be car thieves are facing charges after allegedly trying, and failing, to steal a vehicle from an affluent Long Island neighborhood. The incident occurred at around 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, in Roslyn Heights at a home on Field Lane, according to Nassau County Police. Investigators said the suspects pulled up to the victim's home in a Pontiac G6 before walking up to a BMW that was parked in a driveway. Long Island Expressway Stretch Reopens After Crash
This story has been updated. A stretch of the Long Island Expressway has reopened following a crash during the height of the afternoon commute on Tuesday, Dec. 27. The closure, reported at around 5 p.m., is on the eastbound side in Suffolk County at Exit 61. Suffolk County Police announced around 5:45 p.m. that the lanes reopened.

Lane Closures Scheduled For Stretch of Long Island Expressway In Islip
State officials announced upcoming lane closures on a stretch of the Long Island Expressway. The westbound HOV and left lanes of the LIE will be closed in Islip at Exit 53 (Sagtikos State Parkway) on Tuesday, Dec. 20, between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, the New York State Department of Transportation announced. The lanes are set to close to facilitate bridge maintenance operations, officials said.

Intoxicated Driver Crashes Into Vehicle On LIE In Brentwood, 2 People Injured, Police Say
A 53-year-old man was charged with driving while intoxicated after he was involved in a three-vehicle crash on the Long Island Expressway. Ki Tat Leung, of Flushing, Queens, was arrested and charged with DWI following the crash that happened in Brentwood at about midnight on Saturday, Dec. 17, the Suffolk County Police Department reported. SCPD said Leung was driving a 2009 BMW west on the LIE near Exit 53 when he crashed into the rear passenger side of a 2020 Honda. A driver who fatally struck a 61-year-old man on the Long Island Expressway remains at large, police said. The crash happened in Ronkonkoma at about 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 5, Suffolk County Crime Stoppers reported on Thursday, Dec. 15. Authorities said Robert Twiford parked his vehicle on the off-ramp of the eastbound LIE at Exit 60 and got out of the vehicle. A man who was lying in the roadway off-ramp of the Long Island Expressway was killed by a hit-and-run driver. The incident took place in Ronkonkoma around 8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 5.
