A pair of Long Island communities are among the “best places to live in America” in 2022, according to a newly released poll.
Each year, Niche explores the best places to live in the US, evaluating factors that include crime, public school systems, job opportunities and local amenities.
Using data based on the US Census, FBI, US Bureau of Labor (BLS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other sources, Niche then ranked the top places to live across the country, led by Chesterbrook, a suburb of Philadelphia.

Man Struck, Killed By Lirr Train
A man was killed after being hit by an LIRR train on Long Island.
The unidentified man, who was on the tracks near Greenlawn, was struck around 6:37 p.m., Tuesday, April 20, said a spokeswoman for the MTA.
Train service was suspended between Huntington and Port Jefferson due to the incident, they added.
Service was restored around 8:36 p.m.
The incident, which is under investigation by the MTA Police, is considered non-criminal in nature, they added.
Two Charged After Teen Is Stabbed At Lirr Station
Two juveniles have been apprehended after a teen was slashed at an LIRR train station.
The incident happened on Friday, Jan. 17 at 3:40 p.m. in Manhasset, Nassau County Police said.
According to detectives, while attempting to purchase drugs from two juvenile subjects, ages 16 and 17, the victim, also 17, was assaulted by the 16-year-old with a knife, causing him to suffer severe lacerations to both of his hands, police said.

Group Of Santas Help Restrain Suspect Who Stabbed Victim On Lirr, MTA Says
A group of SantaCon participants helped save a person who was stabbed on an LIRR train by restraining the attacker.
The attack of a 22-year-old victim took place around 5:55 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, near the Woodside station onboard a train bound for Babylon, said a spokesman for the MTA.
MTA Police arrested Robert Marciano, 45, address unknown, and charged him with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, harassment and reckless endangerment, the MTA said.
The injured victim, who was reportedly stabbed in the leg, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Here's How Many Long Islanders Are Without Power
Thousands of Long Islanders are without power after a Nor’easter tore through the region, bringing whipping winds and rain.
As of late Thursday morning, Oct. 17, 1,098 outages were reported by PSEG Long Island customers, impacting 11,498 customers, with a bulk of the outages reported on the East End.
In Nassau County, 2,527 of PSEG’s 487,860 customers were reporting outages, with restoration expected no later than 1 a.m. on Friday morning, Oct. 18, while 8,970 of the company’s 638,457 customers were still in the dark, with restoration estimated at 1:15 a.m. on Friday.
