The sighting was reported on Long Island at Nickerson Beach in Nassau County.  As a precaution, the town of Hempstead also closed Lido Beach and Malibu Beach for swimmers for a brief period early Saturday afternoon, Aug. 3.  Officials said the shark was spotted about 75 feet from the shore. The Nassau County Marine unit responded to Nickerson Beach at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 7 in Lido Beach, when the boat capsized approximately 200 yards off the shore with six passengers on board who were all tossed into the water.
