'Significant' Cancer Levels Discovered In NY School District, Report Says
A study has found that people living near or who attend school in a New York school district had "significant" higher cancer incidents. The study found the number of residents of all ages living within the Northport-East Northport School District had a "statistically significant," higher rate of cancer, reported ABC 7 Eyewitness News. Deodorants Recalled Due To Unexpected Levels Of Cancer-Causing Chemical
A company has recalled some of its deodorant products due to unexpected levels of a carcinogen. TCP HOT Acquisition LLC dba HRB Brands recalled "Sure" and "Brut" branded aerosol spray deodorants with expiration dates on or before August 2023, according to an announcement on Wednesday, Feb. 16. The company said the products contain unexpected levels of benzene, and that this was caused by the propellant that sprays the product from the can. Blood Drives To Be Held In NY In Effort To Save 4-Year-Old Boy With Leukemia
A number of blood drives are being held in the area this month in the hope of saving a Long Island 4-year-old with leukemia. Nassau County resident Ayden Paredes, of Glen Cove, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on Feb. 7 of 2021, according to Mark Paredes, Ayden's father. Ayden has been receiving chemotherapy treatments and blood transfusions since then, but doctors are now saying he needs a blood stem cell/bone marrow transplant to save his life, Mark said. Michael Bowler, State Champion Long Island HS Lacrosse Coach, Dies
A state champion high school lacrosse coach on Long Island is dead at 72. Michael P. Bowler, who has lived in Port Jefferson Station for nearly five decades and coached the Rocky Point High School varsity lacrosse team for 47 years, died at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan following a battle with leukemia on Sunday, Dec. 1, his family announced. After starting the Rocky Point lacrosse team, Bowler made it to the top of the mountain when the team won the 2008 state championship with the Eagles.
